Three years ago today my son was stillborn. The past two years around this time, I’ve attempted to post something useful to people who are either grieving a similar loss or close to someone who is. I’m not feeling particularly inspired this time around, so let me just say that my heart goes out to all those parents who are suffering the loss of a child.
For those of you who live some place close and know me from the real world:
My wife and I participate in an organization called Share, which is a service & support group. There are meetings, and the mothers also make hospital visits where they’ll take molds of the child’s hands and feet, take pictures, & donate blankets, gowns, burial clothes and a bunch of other stuff. They’re always in need of things, so if you live close and are of a mind to donate something to help out, here’s what they currently need:
- Gowns in all sizes. If you can sew, there are lots of pattern available online: burial gown and bonnet, boy’s interment outfit, bereavement gowns. Just google for more, there’s a ton.
- Ziplock bags in gallon and quart sizes for blanket packets.
- Glue sticks for glue guns
- Soft or baby colored scrapbook paper for hand and footprint cards.
- Embellishments, ribbon, flowers to be used in box decorating (box that we give the molds in)
- Glads press and seal
- Boy’s burial clothing in all sizes
You can just call or shoot me an email if you’re interested.
